Leftover Candy Caramel Apples

I never have leftover candy from Halloween, but if you are one of those mutant humans that can resist the temptation of sweets, this would be a great way for you to use those leftover candy bars as gifts, favors, or just for yourself. The future dentist in me cringes at the fact that I’m posting such a sticky treat, but I’ve found that if you cut these up first, your teeth will hate you less.

Let me introduce you to a few of my friends:

Mr. Heath Mrs. Snickers

And their particularly droopy son, Butterfinger

Quite a good looking family if you ask me. After I dipped the apples in caramel and rolled them in candy, the weight of the candy caused the caramel to slide down the sides of the apples, creating a pool of caramely-chocolately goodness at the bottoms. I’m not sure how to prevent this, I need to go to Rocky Mountain Candy Factory and ask for some tips, but the good stuff is all still there, just distributed differently. I’m sure your friends won’t complain. Mine didn’t.

I used mini Granny Smith apples and a caramel apple kit I had bought at an orchard. They sell them in most grocery stores too. Anything miniature, especially on a stick, is so cute. Even without caramel and chocolate!

Using my trusty blender (I have a food processor, but it scares me so I’ve avoided it thus far), I crumbled up 5 fun size candy bars each of snickers, butterfinger, and heath bar.

It was hard to not just stop here and eat this all with a spoon, but I composed myself and was able to make 10 cute, delicious caramel apples.

Candy Caramel Apples

1 caramel apple kit
10 mini Granny Smith apples
15 fun sized chocolate candy bars of your liking

– Prepare caramel according to kit’s directions
– While sauce is cooking, stick popsicle sticks in the apples and place them on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper
– Crush up candy bars using a blender, food processor, or your own strength
– Dip the apples in the caramel and then roll them in candy, applying slight pressure to make sure the candy really sticks
– Place the apples back onto the lined cookie sheet and place in fridge to let them cool and set
